What do u Want? A Great Cup of Coffee or a Hot Beverage System?
January 18, 2009
Often the decision as to just which one cup coffee maker you will buy depends upon the availability and ease of getting coffee for the machine. The quality and variety of coffee you can buy will also have a strong influence. All of the Keurig brewing systems have earned consistently high ratings and rave reviews for an extremely reliable and durable machine as well as one that can be counted on for wonderfully fresh, delicious coffee.
There are several Keurig single cup brewing systems available, ranging from the small, compact Mini B30 to the top of the line, the Keurig B70 Platinum model. All of the Keurig machines have identical brewing systems which use K-cups to produce coffee.
The K-Cups are small containers, similar to individual coffee creamers. Each holds an exact portion of vacuum packed, freshly ground coffee to make one cup. Keurig has partnered with several top notch coffee roasters like Green Mountain, Timothy’s Tulleys, Diedrich, Newman’s Own, and Gloria Jean. There are over 200 different types and flavors of coffee, tea, and cocoa in K-Cups, ready to make delicious, fresh beverages. Celestial Seasonings, Bigelow, and Twinings have partnered with Keurig to package tea in K-Cups and there are several brands of cocoa, including Timothy’s popular White Hot Chocolate available.
When you compare the variety of flavors you can enjoy in K-Cups, you will be quite frustrated with the limited selection for use with the Tassimo single cup brewer. This machine contains a micro-processor which manages brew temperature and volume of water as it reads a bar code imprinted on each T-Disc of coffee or shelf-stable dairy product. Once inserted into the brew head, the scanned information can deliver various sizes and strengths of coffee or milk for an espresso shot or frothed milk for a latte or cappuccino. Often marketed as a hot beverage machine, the Tassimo is not focused purely on coffee, as is the Keurig.
There is less variety in the Tassimo line of T-Discs and coffee purists compare the gourmet roasts in K-Cups to the often supermarket chain varieties of coffee in the discs.
Leaning heavily on Gevalia, CafeNorte and KenCo blends, Tassimo has just recently started marketing T-Discs packed with Seattle’s Best as well as some grinds from Starbucks. Its focus remains on competing with the local favorite hangout for a latte or cappuccino. The Tassimo is marketed as a hot beverage machine not as a coffee brewing system like Keurig.

Just a quick follow upon the Tassimo, they have released quite a few new T-Discs not that are not available in North American stores, but can be ordered in. The European flavors are much stronger and will appeal more to coffee lovers who really appreciate a strong cup.
Also as a beverage maker, I love my Taasimo as it can quickly make hot chocolate for the kids or a nice cup of coffee for me and only takes up a bit of counter space. I created a whole article about them here, <a href=”http://www.squidoo.com/buy-tassimo”Tassimo Beverage Maker if you want to take a read.
