Newman’s Own Organic Coffee Available Through Green Mountain Roasters
When Paul Newman and Nell Newman began looking for the right partner in their coffee enterprise, they found a New England neighbor, Green Mountain Roasters. Their partnership flourished, focused on the common goals of marketing quality coffee while maintaining the environment, supporting sustainable farming, and improving the lives of small coffee farmers. Today, the partnership continues and there are now several Fair Trade Newman’s Own Organic coffees available.
Green Mountain Roasters and Newman’s Own Organics have seven different blends in bags of whole beans or ground roasts. There’s
- Newman’s Special Blend
- Newman’s Special Blend decaf
- Newman’s Coffee Almond Biscotti
- Nell’s Breakfast Blend
- Newman’s Own Vanilla Caramel
- Newman’s French Roast
- Newman’s Colombian Especial
Then, there is Newman’s Own Special Blend Extra Bold coffee which is packaged in a K-Cup. These fine Arabica coffee beans are Fair Trade Certified and have been grown according to strict standards and earned the Organic certification. Paul Newman always enjoyed a darker roast coffee, while daughter-partner, Nell, liked a lighter roast. A review by Single Serve Coffee at www.singleservecoffee.com, commented, “…This inspired blend of medium roasted Central American coffees and darker roasted Indonesians is rich and robust, with ample body to stand up to all the cream and sugar that you might want to add to the party. Which is precisely how Pa takes his…this is his favorite blend, after all. For fans of both dark and light roasts.” A decaf of this blend is also available in a K-Cup. These two blends are the only ones available now in K-Cups but fans Of Newman’s Own are hopeful that this will change soon.
Whole beans and ground roasts of Newman’s Own Coffee are packaged in a bag that has been made more environmentally friendly. The outer layer of petroleum based material has been replaced with a new type of packaging film. This as a layer of PLA (poly-lactic) material, a polymer derived entirely from natural cornstarches and is 100% renewable. This reduced the non-renewable portion of each bag 19% by weight.
Nell’s Breakfast Blend was included in the February 2009 issue of Real Simple magazine’s list of eight “buzz-worthy” coffees “worth waking up for”. This is a blend selected by Nell and is described as complex with depth. Newman’s Own has teamed up with Green Mountain Roasters and Coffee Kids on a number of worthwhile projects designed to improve the lives of the coffee farmers. One innovative agricultural program in a rural area near Oaxaca, Mexico, helps women raise chickens. This provides them a means to diversify, increase their household income, while improving their family’s diet with fresh meat and eggs.
The partnership of Newman’s Own and Green Mountain Roasters is a happy blend of two socially responsible enterprises, working together to bring you great coffee while maintaining the environment and improving the lives of coffee farmers.
